Hi. I have always taken pictures of cemetaries when I go on vacatsions since I was a kid. Here are a hand full. I had more but computer is having some fits right now.
All the cemetaries are wonderful, great feelings and very cleansing feeling except the Bachelor Grove cemetary outside of Chicago. It has a real bloody history. Mob used it as a dumping ground and was abandon long ago. Its been used supposedly for rituals and gang things in recent years. Hardly any graves have been left untouched. Many have been dug up and most Markers that survive have been damaged. Two pics have some mysterious mist and images. THought may enjoy those. People think one looks like it has a profile in the mist.
The Rochester Cemetary is huge and beautiful. Very hilly and a great place to just wander and explore. paths and trees great old valuts and markers. Famous people like Susan B Anthony and Frederick Doulgas.
If I can figure out whats up with my computer and scanner and images I will get some more black and white ones I have. The best ones from New Orleans arent retrieveable right now.
Thanks

Sun, April 24, 2005 - 12:39 AMI was able to add a few more pics.
Hi Ciarda
Went went to St Roch, and St Louis cemetary #2 and #3.
St Louis 2 & 3 are between the Quarter and the Garden District if I remember right. West of the Quarter.
St Louis Cemetary #1 is the one I really wanted to go to, but it is directly north of the quarter which places it right next to the projects. There were alot of problems crime wise when I visited (Halloween week) so things were already weird because of the holiday. Police were asking people to stay out of #1. Go during the day if you can. We stayed up late everynight so had problems getting to it when it would of been "safe". St Louis Cemetary # 1 is where the tomb of VooDoo Queen Marie Leveau is.
Thanks for enjoying the pics.
A friend is going to give me pics from her trip through cemetaries in Paris in a few weeks so hopefully I will be able to post those at some point. -

Tue, April 26, 2005 - 1:09 AMNo, haven't gotten around Oakland much - But this is the 3rd time I have heard this cemetery mentioned in the last week... Next time I'm up in the Bay I must stop by...
Been by Colma a couple of times - But that's like the Disneyland of cemeteries....

I'm 99.99% positive this is it... I had been driving through the night and went there to wait till a friend got off work, so was rather delirious wondering around. But from the map I looked at @ yahoo, it looks right... There were some pretty cool markers and stuff there. Wish I'd had more time to wonder around...

Re: New pics from new guy
Sat, April 30, 2005 - 12:38 AMPretty unique looking stuff.
I always get such a thrill out of seeing how people used to expend so much love and devotion into thier dead.
It's hear warming. I'm glad we all can appreciate them. Sacramento does have some great places too. The closer we get to the "gold rush" areas, the richer the history, the stranger the tombstones. It's wonderful.
Thanks for contributing! -
